Helenite is a gemstone created from the volcanic rock of Mount Saint Helens’ May 18, 1980 eruption. The stone was discovered when workers used acetylene torches to recover buried equipment.

Helenite’s Forest Green comes from naturally-occuring iron. Helenite’s Swiss Blue gets its color from cobalt.┬áHelenite’s Ruby Red’s color comes from gold.┬áHelenite’s Twilight Lavendar from mangense.

Helenite rates a 6 on the Mohs hardness scale.
